Senate Bill 20-026: Operators’ Benefits

Section 8-41-301 C.R.S. concerns eligibility for workers’ compensation benefits for workers who are exposed to psychologically traumatic events, which includes exposure to the serious bodily injury or death, of one or more people as the result of a violent event, the intentional act of another person, or an accident.

Originally, benefits were extended to workers who visually witnessed such events in the course of their employment. Senate Bill 20-026 extends workers’ compensation benefits eligibility to those who may “audibly witness” a traumatic event. This extension is to serve persons such as 911 operators or emergency dispatchers who may be subject to listening to psychologically traumatic events in the course of their employment.
